About Us

The Bihari Muslim Group (UK) is a warm and welcoming community that brings together friends, families, and acquaintances in the UK who share a connection to Bihar—whether through birth, heritage, or family roots. United by a shared sense of belonging, we celebrate the traditions, language, and culture that make Bihar so special. Our aim is to connect Biharis across the UK, helping old friends reunite and new friendships flourish. We regularly host social gatherings filled with laughter, nostalgia, and the irresistible flavours of authentic Bihari cuisine. These events offer a chance to meet people from familiar towns and localities, rekindle childhood bonds, and create new memories together. Beyond social interaction, we believe in fostering a spirit of care and support within our network—offering help and guidance whenever members need it. As we continue to grow, our next phase will focus on giving back—through charitable initiatives in Bihar and beyond, and by creating a trusted, network-based matrimony platform to help families find compatible matches within the community.

Mission

The Bihari Muslim Group (UK) is dedicated to building a strong, faith-centered community rooted in the values of Islam and the shared heritage of Bihar. Our mission is to unite Biharis across the UK, creating a supportive network where families and individuals can connect, share experiences, and uphold the principles of compassion, brotherhood, and service taught by Islam.
We strive to provide support to one another—socially, emotionally, and spiritually—while promoting educational growth and community learning opportunities for all ages. By fostering a sense of belonging and responsibility, we aim to help members live meaningful, faith-driven lives.
Looking ahead, our vision extends to charitable initiatives that uplift underprivileged communities in Bihar and beyond, developing a trusted matrimony network grounded in Islamic values, and empowering children and youth to grow with confidence, knowledge, and moral strength. Together, we strengthen faith, friendship, and our shared Bihari identity.

History of Bihari Muslims

Bihari Muslims are those adherents of Islam in Bihar who identify linguistically, culturally and genealogically as part of the broader Bihari population. Their large-scale presence in Bihar dates back to the 14th century, when Turk traders and Sufi missionaries arrived in the South Bihar plains, initiated agricultural colonisation and helped spread Islam among the local populace. Over time, Muslim chieftains and rulers emerged in parts of Bihar — for example the Faujdar/Nawabs of Purnea in the early 1700s.
Following the partition of India in 1947, many Bihari Muslims migrated to West and East Pakistan (now Bangladesh). During Bangladesh’s 1971 war of independence some Biharis were viewed as aligned with Pakistan and faced significant hardship; repatriation efforts have been complex and ongoing.
Through these historical processes, the Bihari Muslim community has developed distinct linguistic, cultural and religious traits rooted in Bihar’s local history and the broader Islamic heritage of South Asia.

Our 5 Mottos

The Bihari Muslim Group (UK) brings together families and individuals with roots in Bihar, India, to celebrate our shared culture, faith, and community spirit. Through our activities, we aim to preserve our heritage, strengthen Islamic values, and build meaningful connections among Biharis in the UK.
    1. Social Gatherings & Community Connections We regularly host social events where members reconnect with old friends, meet new ones, and enjoy the warmth of traditional Bihari hospitality. These gatherings feature authentic home-style Bihari cuisine, lively conversations, and a spirit of nostalgia — helping people relive cherished memories and create new ones within a supportive community.
    2. Faith & Islamic Values Our group is deeply rooted in the principles of Islam — unity, compassion, equality, and service to others. We encourage one another to grow spiritually through community discussions, reminders, and good deeds that reflect our shared Islamic identity and moral foundation.
    3. Support & Wellbeing We believe in standing by each other through life’s challenges. Whether it’s offering guidance to newcomers, providing personal or emotional support, or helping during times of need, our members are bound by trust, respect, and a genuine spirit of brotherhood.
    4. Education & Youth Empowerment Education is central to our mission. We aim to nurture the next generation of Bihari Muslims through mentoring, learning initiatives, and child development programmes that build confidence, knowledge, and strong moral values rooted in faith.
    5. Charitable Work & Matrimony Initiatives As part of our growth, we are committed to charitable projects that uplift communities in Bihar and beyond. Alongside this, we are developing a trusted, network-based matrimony platform to help families find compatible matches within the community, promoting family unity and cultural continuity.
